SINGAPORE, 28 JULY 2010 – Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ: ERTS) revealed today that 22-year-old Lee Chung Yong of Bolton Wanderers will be the first Asian cover athlete for EA SPORTS™ FIFA Online 2. Lee will be FIFA Online 2’s ambassador across Asia, and will play an integral role in the game’s activities in the coming year.
EA SPORTS FIFA Online 2 is the free-to-play, PC online version of the blockbuster EA SPORTS FIFA football game franchise. Featuring a comprehensive line-up of the most popular professional football leagues, clubs and players, as well as innovative online game play features, FIFA Online 2 offers Asian gamers an immersive and authentic football experience. Gamers will be able to build-up and manage their ultimate team in the challenging Career mode, or pit their skills against other gamers in the online multi-player matches. FIFA Online 2 is currently available in South Korea, China, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.
Lee, whose name Chung Yong means “Blue Dragon” in Korean, is one of Asia’s most promising football talents. Having performed well in the 2007 Under-20 FIFA World Cup for the Korea Republic, Lee soon earned a call-up to the full national team in May 2008 against Jordan in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier. Now a regular in the full national team, Lee also plays a key role for Bolton Wanderers in England’s Premier League.
Joining the Trotters from FC Seoul in the summer of 2009, Lee was soon making his bow in Bolton’s 1st team. A stylish and skillful midfielder, Lee scored 5 goals for the club in all competitions during the 2009/10 season, and capped a successful debut season by being named Bolton’s Player of the Year.
Carrying his good form onto the international stage, Lee was soon representing the Korea Republic in the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. Playing in all of the Korea Republic’s matches at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Lee scored 2 goals for his country, helping them reach the knock-out stages.
“I am really excited and happy to be working with EA SPORTS and FIFA Online 2,” said Lee. “The EA SPORTS FIFA series has always been very popular in Korea and Asia, and with the success of FIFA Online 2, it’s an exciting opportunity for me to be a part of the game.”
“Lee Chung Yong has shown with his performances what an exciting Asian football talent he is”, said Savannah Hahn, Vice-President for EA Asia, “He is a great ambassador for the sport of football and for FIFA Online 2, and we would like to warmly welcome him to the EA SPORTS family.”
