Singapore, 10 May 2010 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) and Neowiz Games Corp. (“Neowiz”) announced that from today onwards, football fans and gamers in Asia will be able to experience the passion and excitement of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ right on their PC screens, with the launch of a new 2010 FIFA World Cup™ game mode for EA SPORTS™ FIFA Online 2, EA’s hit and free-to-play, PC online football game.
Launching first in Korea, the new game mode will be gradually rolled out across China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam throughout April and May 2010.
The new 2010 FIFA World Cup game mode will feature the full 2010 FIFA World Cup Tournament structure, from the exciting group stages to the tension of the knock-out rounds, to the ultimate FIFA World Cup Final™. Asian gamers will have the chance to lead their favourite national teams to World Cup glory. Featuring all 199 national teams that took part in qualification, gamers can play as any of the 32 2010 FIFA World Cup finalists like South Korea, Japan, Brazil, Spain and England or any of the other 167 national teams.
EA SPORTS™ FIFA Online 2 gamers in China, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia can also play as their home nation; featuring authentic team rosters and kits, these gamers will have the chance to lead their national teams in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Tournament, and score the goal that wins the FIFA World Cup for their country.
The new game mode will also feature an improved Multi-player feature. Gamers can pick a national team and challenge other gamers in a 16 player knock-out tournament that mirrors the excitement of the FIFA World Cup knock-out rounds. Boasting an improved match-making system, the Multi-player feature will enable gamers to challenge other gamers at the same stage of the tournament, for example the semi-finals stage, without having to wait for long periods.
Whether playing matches in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Tournament or Multi-player feature, gamers will receive special experience points. By accumulating these points, gamers can increase their 2010 FIFA World Cup mode experience levels. Gamers will be rewarded with Virtual Uniforms of selected players, which they can use in their regular EA SPORTS™ FIFA Online 2 Career mode, and other in-game items as they level-up.
