Mad About Soccer

In 2008 the Singapore soccer team won top honours at the ASEAN Football Championships, beating Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, traditional rivals Malaysia and ASEAN powerhouse Thailand to retain their regional crown.

It was the third time Singapore lifted the trophy since the championships began in 1996, and IAHGames was right in the thick of the action.

We were the main prize sponsor for the reward to the Lions (Singapore’s national football team), along with other sponsors like Singapore Power, Nike, Unisteel Technology, Pacific Andes Holdings, ST Telemedia, NTUC Income Insurance and Jay Gee Enterprises-Levi’s, and long-term partner Asia Pacific Breweries-Tiger Beer.

The amount we presented was the biggest cash prize any individual corporation had given to the Lions for winning this trophy.

That year we also released top Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games such as Granado Espada, Hellgate: London and Emil Chronicles Online. So this was truly the capstone for an awesome year!

With this sponsorship, we totally breached the gap between online games and real-world football.

Said CEO Roland Ong, “There is a real link between online games media and real-world football. Not just for online football games, but for all online games, because of their competitive nature and the ‘stars’ they create. As football is the number one sport in Southeast Asia, we see the fan base as one which would also be interested in such games.”

At a celebration ceremony held at Vivocity, IAHGames COO Richard Chua received a token of appreciation from Speaker of Parliament Mr Abdullah Tarmugi, for IAHGames’ support of the Lions.

Richard also lifted the championship trophy with Lions captain Aide Iskandar and goalkeeper Lionel Lewis, whose saves in the tournament were crucial in their final victory.
