Chinese New Years’ Eve is an important holiday in many parts of Asia, and not just because of the half day-off.
Welcoming the Chinese Lunar New Year always involves truckloads of food, eye-popping red decorations, and the tendency of everyone to remain in good moods so as not to jinx their luck for the coming year.
So for IAHGames earlier in 2010, the spirit of Chinese New Year was strong, and much more.
As a sign of our multicultural environment, celebrations began in the Korean, not Chinese, spirit. Our Korean colleagues held a culture-sharing session, and brought home-made Korean snacks to boot. IAHGames staff also got to see the Korean translations of their names – some sounding better than their original names… others, not quite so…
The highlight of the day had to be the debut of our very own God of Fortune, the staple of all Chinese New Year celebrations! Really, where else can you find your very own in-house God of Fortune? No outsourcing required!
After the God of Fortune dispensed his “incantations” and “spells” of good fortune to one and all, it was time for what everyone had been waiting for –free food! Who says there’s no such thing as a free lunch??
There’s more. Each IAHGames staff member walked home with not one, but two ‘red packets’. And at a closed-door lucky draw earlier, those who did not win prizes at last year’s X’mas party finally got presents to take home! Everyone’s a winner at IAHGames…
