Last time we gave you something special for our Gamer Girl (GG) feature… Instead of a beautiful face who plays games, we gave you a beautiful face who dresses up as your favourite game and anime characters. Alodia Gosiengfiao is one of Asia’s most famous cosplayers, and do you know she is one part of a fabulous cosplay duo?

Meet her sister, Ashley Gosiengfiao. Also an official ‘Ani-Mate’ for Animax, Ashley shares her love for dolphins, music, and mysterious guys…

What is your current occupation outside cosplay?

I am a full-time student, mostly. During my free time I work as a freelance fashion, portrait, and concert photographer. I also endorse a few products such as clothes, videogames, and healthy food and drinks.

What are your favourite female characters in games/anime/pop culture? Why?

My favourite female character of all time would be Tifa Lockheart from Final Fantasy VII. I just love her attitude and fight moves. She's a kickboxer, and I've always wanted to enrol myself in kickboxing lessons because of her. I will never ever forget her ‘Dolphin Kick’ move, which has actually gotten me into dolphins! I just love everything about Tifa, because she can kick butt!

Which characters have you cosplayed?

Like my sister, all the characters I've cosplayed so far are female, except for one, which was Melo from Deathnote. I had to bind my chest just to look convincing!

What do you like about those characters you cosplayed?

I usually like choosing characters with strong and edgy personalities, because that's how I am in real life.

Which was the most difficult cosplay you’ve done? Why?

I guess it would be my Shiori Tsuzuki costume from Witchblade. My weapon was really hard to swing around for our fight scene, which we did during the Anime Festival Asia ‘09 in Singapore. It was really huge and heavy. It felt like my arm would come off any time!

What is the most fun, and the hardest part of the cosplay lifestyle?

The hardest part would be wearing contact lenses! It takes me such a long time to put them on because my eyes are very, very sensitive. I can’t even open my eyes underwater once I'm wearing them.

Which male characters in games/anime/pop culture do you like the most? Why?

I've had the biggest crushes on Shine from Akazukin Chacha, Forelock from Lightning Legend, Vincent from FFVII, Zidane from FFIX, and Tidus from FFX. I like them smart, brave, manly and mysterious. I also like the clumsy and witty ones too.

What do you think about the cosplay scene in this region?

People here are getting better, not only in terms of craftsmanship but also in performance! The competition's getting very, very tough…

Tell us a bit about yourself.

There are, in fact, many things that make me happy, like performing with my band Yes Ma'am (formerly Hymn of Siren), playing volleyball or any kind of sport, playing videogames, taking photographs, reading books, staying home, sleeping in, going online, watching DVDs, writing songs, and playing my guitar and singing my heart out, hanging out with my friends and/or family, and of course shopping.

Food makes me happy too! Haha. I get very, very upset on days when I need or want to do a lot of things but there just isn't enough time.

In my free time I like hanging out in my room with my laptop, guitar, and books. Everything I need is here.

What do you want to do when you “grow up”? Why?

When I "grow up", I wouldn't want to settle for just one thing. I'd probably turn my hobbies into full-time professions.

What kind of guys do you have a soft spot for?

I like them either musically-inclined or athletic, preferably both! I'd like us to have common interests so it'll be easy for us to get along, right?

It's good if they acknowledge and support the fact that I cosplay. It's a really important part of my life, and I like being encouraged to do something that I love!

I think that normal dinner dates are pretty boring and overdone. If you're going to take me out, please make sure that we'll be doing something entertaining! Haha!

How can your legions of admirers follow you online?

Yes I do! Here's my Facebook page and my Twitter.

  • Pink hair is even more striking in real life
  • Ashley as Ayano, from 'Stigma of the Wind'
  • Are YOU the ONE??
  • Guess which football team is she supporting?
  • The epitome of 'oriental beauty'!
