Today we present an 11-minute documentary by animator Simon Cottee on the pixel art phenomenon.
This may be the age of impeccable, realistic game graphics, but ironically it is pushing more people to appreciate the simpler things in games – good ol’ pixilated images and music!
Pixel artists turn the clock back to the early days of gaming, opting to make images within the limits imposed on early pixel artists working on those 8-bit and 16-bit video games. And the sister movement, called ‘chiptunes’, sees musicians composing on old chip boards used to make early game music.
